Yes of course Donald Trump is a stain on the country. But some stains can be removed, others are permanent. Which kind is he?
My sense is that in his first term he was more of a removable stain. Once he left office, the country could in theory reassemble itself, rebuild a functioning government, be a respectable actor in the world again.
Once he was re-elected, that's no longer the case, the stain is permanent. It's what we are now. We could find a dozen Lincolns or Roosevelts in the future; we'd still be the country that elected Donald Trump twice. A country of dangerous morons.
